Hivemapper

Hivemapper created a decentralized mapping network where drivers using dashcams contribute geospatial data to create and update street-level mapping databases. The network has engaged 434,000 drivers who have collectively mapped 399 million kilometers of roads and streets globally. Contributors earn HONEY tokens as rewards for data submission, creating direct economic incentives for participation. The project demonstrates how decentralized networks can crowdsource geographic data collection at massive scale. The 434,000 driver participation represents significant community engagement in geographic data collection. These drivers collectively represent billions of kilometers of observed road and street networks. The distributed nature of data collection enables rapid updates as roads change, new streets are added, and geographic features shift. The 399 million kilometers of mapped roads reflect the scale of geographic coverage achieved through decentralized participation. This coverage extent enables the creation of comprehensive, regularly updated mapping databases that compete with traditional commercial mapping providers. The decentralized approach enables faster updates and more granular data collection than centralized providers. Hivemapper's HONEY token rewards for dashcam data creation establish direct economic incentives for community participation in geographic data collection. Drivers earn tokens proportional to data quality and quantity, creating measurable value exchange. This token-based incentive structure enables sustainable economic models for decentralized data collection. Hivemapper exemplifies how DePIN projects can crowd-source essential infrastructure data at scale while creating direct economic rewards for participants. The project's 434,000 drivers and 399 million kilometers of mapped roads demonstrate sustained community participation and genuine infrastructure utility.
